Education continues to be an important factor to most participants, with 56 per cent noting that they have upgraded their training since entering the workforce. In fact, 37 per cent of respondents said they participate in educational programs at least once a year, while 25 per cent do so several times a year. Interestingly, the majority of respondents said their company pays for educational courses (76 per cent) and membership in professional associations (73 per cent).

On average the vast majority of respondents said they worked more than 40 hours a week, with 43 per cent saying they regularly work over 50 hours per week (82 per cent also said they are not compensated for overtime hours worked, and of those who are compensated, 55 per cent are paid in lieu time). For this latter group, the mean salary was $99,500, while of those who worked between 35 and 39 hours a week the mean salary was $68,500. Male respondents also reported a higher average income than women, earning an average salary of $99,400 while their female counterparts earned an average salary of $66,300. Most respondents (45 per cent) said they do not receive bonuses or incentives, and yet 17 per cent said that incentives comprised between 11 and 20 per cent of their salaries. The mean salary increase for all respondents was 3.5 per cent last year, although a quarter of respondents said they received no increase last year.

Most respondents said they received company benefits such as health and dental insurance, pension plan and life insurance, and interestingly 56 per cent say they receive a communication device such as a cellphone or Blackberry. Other less common benefits listed range from overseas vacation travel allowance to meals, product allowance and even wine.
