
Egg Farmers to fund research chair at University of Guelph

Guelph, Ont. – Dr. Tina Widowski has been chosen to lead the first-ever Egg Farmers of Canada Research Chair in Poultry Welfare at the University of Guelph’s Ontario Agricultural College.
Widowski is a professor in Animal and Poultry Science and director of the Campbell Centre for the Study of Animal Welfare at the University of Guelph, North America’s largest organization of animal behaviour and welfare researchers.
In this new position Widowski will work with researchers in the areas of laying-hen welfare and egg production. One particular area of study will be poultry housing, covering cages, enriched cages and aviaries.
Under the funding agreement, the Egg Farmers will provide the initiative with a total of $770,000 over the next seven years.
