Beyond healthy eating, Mahaffy observes that consumers are also still strongly interested in baked and snack “superfoods.” In response, producers are packing products with good-for-you ingredients. Weston now offers Country Harvest Plus, containing whole grains, twice the iron and folic acid of normal Country Harvest, boosted fibre and Omega-3. The company’s Gadoua Vitalité specialty high-nutrition line has grown to include a new Oatbran offering and four varieties of right-size bagels. And capitalizing on interest in healthy eating, Dempsters recently launched TV ads that feature Looneyspoons cookbook authors Greta and Janet Podleski extolling the virtues of Dempsters SMART 100% Whole Grain Wheat Bread versus highly refined carbohydrates. Sara Lee is also using celebrity appeal within its marketing campaign that attempts to unite fans of Disney’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” with its Soft & Smooth bread products. “Weston Foods, as a proud Olympic supplier to Vancouver 2010, will reinforce the equities of taste and fun that are important to the Wonder brand,” says Mahaffy.
