Ste-Sophie, Que. – Tomato producer Serres Sagami has taken over a 2.3-hectare production site in Mirabel, Que. formerly owned by Portneuf, Que.-based Savoura. This acquisition follows the purchase of a 2.1-hectare site last November in Ste-Marthe, also a former Savoura location.
Serres Sagami produces conventional and organic greenhouse tomatoes, marketed under the Sagami and Biologico brands. According to the company, the recent acquisitions are a result of growing demand within the province for locally grown produce.
The company currently produces approximately 1,500 tonnes of tomatoes annually at production sites in Ste-Sophie and in the province’s Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. Serres Sagami now has almost nine hectares of land for production in Quebec.
