A&W Food Services of Canada announced Oct. 1 that effective immediately, it will be the first national burger chain to eliminate all processed cheese and serve real Cheddar cheese, made without artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives. Instead of processed cheese, all A&W menu items featuring cheese will be crafted with real cheese, made using 100 per cent Canadian milk.

“We believe that sourcing simple, great-tasting ingredients, farmed with care is the right thing to do. Serving real cheese instead of processed cheese was the logical, and delicious, next step,” Susan Senecal, A&W Canada’s President and Chief Executive Officer said in a company release.

A&W says it is proud to support dairy farmers and master cheesemakers across the country and that all of its cheeses (Cheddar, Mozzarella, Jalapeno Monterey Jack and cheese curds) are made in Canada.
