Survey finds Canadians don’t stop for lunch

More than half of Canadians, that’s 53 per cent, spend the majority of their lunch break reading, surfing the Web or working.

That’s according to an Angus Reid survey for ConAgra Foods Canada. The results of which were released online in September.

Many don’t stop for lunch at all

In fact, the survey found that almost one in five Canadians do not stop for a lunch break at all.

When they do have lunch, the survey found that 32 per cent are looking for healthy ingredients, 25 per cent are looking for quality and 17 per cent are looking for flavour.

Also telling was the fact that more than a third of those surveyed only take a lunch break of 16 to 30 minutes, which suggests they are also looking for convenience.

ConAgra launches Healthy Choice Gourmet Steamers

The release of the survey results also coincides with ConAgra’s launch of Healthy Choice Gourmet Steamers into Canada.

The line uses a unique microwaveable Duo-Tray Steam Cooker that circulates steam throughout the meal during cooking.

ConAgra says the line is the first line of complete frozen entrees that incorporates microwave steaming technology that helps preserve flavour, texture and colour of each ingredient.

The launch is only fitting as the survey found that the majority of Canadians, 60 per cent, feel that steaming is the healthiest way to prepare meals.

Methodology

Angus Reid Strategies conducted the online survey from May 28 to May 29, 2009. The survey was conducted among a randomly selected representative sample of 1,017 adult Canadians who are Angus Reid Forum panelists.
