Florenceville, N.B. – McCain Foods Ltd. is temporarily closing its potato processing plant in Grand Falls, N.B. due to a potato shortage.
The facility is shutting down one of two production lines at the facility, with the other scheduled to cease production on July 1.
The closure will affect approximately 120 employees, although the company says about 30 workers will be transferred elsewhere for the summer. The remaining workers will go through training until the plant reopens.
McCain says the facility will re-open when the potato harvest begins, in either late August or September.
