Major Canadian food companies were among a select group of businesses recognized this week for their leadership in energy efficiency.

The Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) Leadership Awards were presented during the Energy 2009 Conference in Toronto, co-hosted by CIPEC and the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters. The awards recognize energy efficiency leadership in corporate stewardship, process and technology improvements, employee awareness and other areas. Projects were judged on their contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to environmental sustainability, as well as their cost effectiveness.
