Food Trends meal kits Ontario Spatula

Meal kit provider Spatula Foods launches Powered by Spatula, a premium frozen marketplace. The new platform is a one-stop-shop to help restaurants transform and sell their top dishes as flash-frozen meal kits across Ontario. The goal is to bring signature restaurant meals to the homes of Ontarians that are ready in under 10 minutes with just a pan and a spatula.

“This industry-leading service not only provides access to top restaurant dishes for foodies and families across Ontario, but also supports local businesses,” said Ian Weng, co-founder and CEO of Spatula Foods. “The Powered by Spatula platform offers restaurants the opportunity to maximize kitchen down time and create incremental revenue that helps to offset the recessionary pressures we’re all feeling. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Powered by Spatula takes care of everything, from packing to packaging, flash-freezing, storage and delivery.

The platform offers meals from four Toronto-based restaurants: GIA, Casa Manila, Hong Shing, and Northern Heat Rib Series.

“With Spatula, we re-imagined the traditional meal kit, which is often cumbersome and time intensive for the busy home cook to prepare. It was important to us to create a product that gave Canadians the most delicious, restaurant quality meals, that are actually fast, good, and easy,” said Wallace Wong, Spatula co-founder and Top Chef finalist. “Powered by Spatula dishes are the next generation of our perfected, flash-frozen offering and I am beyond excited to be partnering with some of my favourite restaurants in the city to bring even more diversity to dinner tables across Ontario.”

The launch of Powered by Spatula introduces eight new dishes to the Spatula lineup, which itself offers more than 30 flash-frozen dishes. Additionally, the Spatula Frozen Marketplace allows consumers to shop their favourite local frozen offerings like General Assembly Pizza and Crafty Ramen.

Spatula’s products are also available at select retailers including McEwan Fine Foods and Foodland.
