USDA report confirms crop failures

More than half of all U.S. crops are in poor condition

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has confirmed that 59 per cent of U.S. pastures are in poor or very poor condition. That compares to 38 per cent of crops in poor condition at this time last year.

By contrast, the USDA is rating just 16 per cent of U.S. pastures as in good or very good condition, compared to 39 per cent at this time in 2011.

Most notable are the forecasts for corn and soybeans. The department estimates that 50 per cent of U.S. corn is in poor or very poor shape, with 23 per cent in excellent shape. Meanwhile, 39 per cent of the soybean crop is in poor condition, with just 29 per cent forecast as in good or excellent condition.
