Nova Scotia poultry processor receives $1 million in funding

Berwick, N.S. – Eden Valley Poultry Inc. has received $1 million in provincial funding to help finalize its renovations of the former Larsen Packers Ltd. pork processing plant in Berwick, N.S.

The investment will go towards the purchase of new poultry processing equipment that will help boost the company’s productivity by more than 40 per cent. The funding comes from the Nova Scotia Ministry of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, through the Productivity Investment Program.

Eden Valley has already invested approximately $40 million in renovating the Berwick plant, which had closed in 2011. The facility is on schedule to re-open in June, and will employ 200 staff members, about half from the former Larsen plant. When fully operational the facility will process 40 million kg of poultry annually.
