Seven Canadian wines are among InterVin International Wine Awards’ top-scoring value wines

Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. – After a three-day intensive competition, judges announced the winners of the 2012 InterVin International Wine Awards.

The best value award went to wines, which retail for $15 or less, that received high scores from InterVin judges who ranked them as silver or gold medal winners.

The 26 selections, including four that are priced at under $12 per bottle, hailed from all corners of the globe, including strong representation from Australia, Canada and Spain.

“People always want to know which wines are good and good value,” says Christopher Waters, editor of VINES Magazine and head judge of the InterVin International Wine Awards.

“Our lineup of red, white, rosé and fruit wines offers a diverse assortment of wines that truly deliver the goods.”

A panel of Canada’s top wine experts tasted more than 1,200 wines from 17 countries during the three-day competition, a record number of entries.

The increase in submissions resulted in the largest judging panel to date for InterVin. The 18-member group included internationally acclaimed sommeliers Lorie O’Sullivan and Sara d’Amato, respected wine writers Rod Phillips and Deanna Van Mulligen and celebrated winemakers Darryl Brooker and Rob Power.
