American Cheese Society announces winners of annual event


Montreal, Que. – The American Cheese Society (ACS) has announced the winners of its 2011 competition, which took place Aug. 3 to 6 in Montreal, the first time the event has been held outside of the U.S.

The competition took place during the 28th annual ACS conference. Each year the conference ends with the Festival of Cheese, which highlights all of the winning cheeses, and which is open to the public.

Cheese manufacturers in North and South America, using milk sourced from North and South America, are eligible to enter the competition. This year’s event drew 1,676 cheese and cultured dairy product entries in 22 different cheese categories and 99 subcategories.

Following are the top-scoring cheeses. For the full list of winners, visit the ACS website. The 2012 event takes place Aug. 1 to 3, 2012 in Raleigh, N.C.

•    Best of show – Rogue Creamery, Ore., Rogue River Blue.
•    Second place (tie) – Finica Food Specialties Limited, Ont./Mariposa Dairy, Ont., Lindsay Bandaged Goat Cheddar; Carr Valley Cheese Co, Inc., Wis., Cave Aged Marisa.
•    Third place – Fromagerie Du Presbytère, Que., Louis d’Or.
