TORONTO: Consumers were warned about more than 500 products this year, according to the Health and Safety Watch, a Toronto-based scientific organization that tracks recalls and advisories.

The organization found there have been 500 advisories and recalls issued for products in Canada to date, including:

  • 92 household products
  • 57 clothing and accessories
  • 57 infant/child products
  • 44 toys and related products
  • 33 sports and recreation products
  • 16 cosmetics and personal care products
  • 15 other
  • 13 labeling requirements
  • 13 outdoor products, such as lawnmowers, barbecues
  • 10 tools and hardware
  • 15 other

Food products:

  • 100 biologic related, such as salmonella
  • 38 allergy-related
  • 6 chemical or physical, such as glass shards
  • 11 other

Health products:

  • 3 medical devices, such as blood glucose meters
  • 1 disinfectant
  • 1 veterinary drugs
  • 1 other
