Harper appoints investigator into listeriosis outbreak

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has appointed Sheila Weatherill the independent investigator into the August 2008 listeriosis outbreak related to certain processed meat products from Maple Leaf Foods. Weatherill is the former president and CEO of Capital Health in Edmonton. Capital Health is one of Canada’s largest integrated academic health systems and Weatherill has extensive experience in both the administration and delivery of health services. Weatherill’s aim is to present a series of recommendations and policies to prevent another outbreak from happening. She’s expected to file her report by July 20 and will be unavailable for public comment until it is complete.
