Saputo acquires Woolwich Dairy

The Montreal-based dairy giant has acquired the Orangeville, Ont.-based goat cheese company for $80 million


Montreal-based dairy giant Saputo Inc. has acquired Orangeville, Ont.-based Woolwich Dairy Inc. for $80 million.

Woolwich Dairy is a manufacturer of branded and private-label goat cheese for the North American market, employing approximately 190 people. Its brands include Woolwich Dairy, Chevrai and Wholesome Goat. It generates annual revenues of approximately $70 million.

Saputo is a leading producer, marketer and distributor of a wide array of dairy products. According to a media release from Saputo, the acquisition of Woolwich is going to enable Saputo to increase its presence in the specialty cheese category in North America.

Woolwich’s operations are comprised of three manufacturing facilities (one in Quebec, one in Ontario and one in Wisconsin), as well as a distribution centre located in Amaranth, Ont.
