Guelph, Ont. – The Ontario Farm Fresh Marketing Association (OFFMA) has given its 2017 Food Innovation Award to Quinta Quinoa, the brand from Katan Kitchens.

OFFMA presented the award  at the 2017 Awards of Excellence Banquet, which took place in Niagara Falls, Ont. on Feb. 21, 2017.

Quinta Quinoa joined OFFMA in early 2016 after launching its Ontario-grown quinoa product in February 2016.

Quinta Quinoa is the first high-nutrient quinoa to be grown and processed in Ontario. Quinta boasts two to four times the nutrient values of quinoa grown in South America, and is the only quinoa product to achieve six nutrient content claims including High in Protein, Zinc and Fibre, Excellent Source of Iron and Magnesium, and Source of Calcium.

Quinta aims to provide local, plant-based superfood products for the food-for-health market, while reducing import/transportation costs and diversifying Ontario’s agriculture.

“We are honoured to be recognized by the Ontario Farm Fresh Marketing Association after being members for only a short time,” says Quinta Project Manager Amy Fehr, who accepted the Innovation Award on the company’s behalf.

“We are excited for the opportunity to be part of an organization that shares our passion for local food, and look forward to increasing our retailers in this channel.”
