“The agricultural heritage and proximity to ranches and farms make locating to western Kentucky an excellent choice,” says Champion Petfoods president and CEO Frank Burdzy. “We are very pleased that the Commonwealth of Kentucky is partnered with us to grow our Biologically Appropriate mandate.”

According to the Alton Telegraph, the 300,000-sq.-ft., multi-million dollar facility will employ 147 people.

Burdzy says the area is rich in local meat and produce, allowing the company to feature a diversity of fresh regional ingredients in their products. The new facility will serve customers throughout the U.S.

Champion Petfoods produces premium foods for cats and dogs under the Orijen and Acana labels. The new “Made in Kentucky” products will be on the market in 2016.
