Filsinger’s Organic Foods expands into hand sanitizer

June 5, 2020, Ayton, Ont. – Filsinger’s Organic Foods, a family-owned certified organic products food company, has launched its first hand sanitizer product after revamping its business model during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Available on Amazon.ca, Filsinger’s Organic Foods Hand Sanitizer Gel is made at the company’s facilities in Ayton, Ont., alongside its apple cider vinegar, sweet apple cider, apple sauce, pear sauce and other products.
The gel contains 70-per-cent ethanol alcohol and is registered with Health Canada.
The launch marks the first time Filsinger’s has expanded beyond food products.
Owner Shaun Becker, along with his brother and cousins, had to raise $150,000 to finance the venture.
In this case, “betting the farm” has paid off for the company. After launching on Amazon.ca last week at a retail price of $22.49 for a 500-millilitre bottle, Filsinger’s has sold more than 1,000 units of the hand sanitizer in two days, and the business has already expanded to a larger-format refill size of 946 millilitres to keep up with demand.
Thousands of units are planned for future shipments, and the venture has allowed the family to hire a cohort of local workers while planning a new year-round business model.
