Black Fly Beverages expands product line

Food In Canada Beverages alcohol drink

Black Fly Vodka Cranberry first rolled off the production line in 2005 — from an old bank building in downtown London, Ont. — the goal was to evolve the Ready-to-Drink (RTD) category.

As Ontario’s first craft-produced RTD, Black Fly created a beverage made with real fruit juices and other natural ingredients, was 60 per cent less sweet than its competitors.

The growth of the product line meant a need for more space. In 2008, Black Fly moved from the old bank building to a 6,000-square-foot manufacturing plant on the eastern edge of London. Additional third party storage enabled Black Fly to carefully manage production and pace rapid growth for more than a decade. In each of the past six years, the company has grown between 23 per cent and 30 per cent year over year, along with explosive growth in the business-to-business category within the industry — bulk alcohol sales, can and lid sales in an industry frequently suffering can shortages and co-packing RTDs for others.

The Shaker Shot is the latest addition to the different formats and flavours: Vodka Lime, Vodka Grapefruit, Vodka Cranberry, Tequila Margarita in Black Fly’s classic bottles along with two different lines of cans — Black Fly Sours and an ultra-light Fizz line.
