Business Operations Food Trends awards Cadbury

Some of the world’s most innovative and creative packaging products were highlighted recently at the Worldwide Packaging Design Awards Competition, the Pentawards 2008.

Now in its second year, the competition is the only global event recognizing excellence in brand packaging design. The event was established to promote creative packaging worldwide, as well as to highlight the beauty and importance of package design. The competition, which features 44 different categories in five major sectors, including food and beverages, was open online from May 1 to June 13, drawing submissions of products launched in 2007 from packaging designers worldwide. The event attracted almost 700 entries from 39 countries, although England, the U.S., France and Japan represented more than 60 per cent of participants. Entries were judged by a jury of 12 packaging design and marketing professionals from around the world.

The winners were announced at October’s Luxe Pack Fair in Monaco, and will go on to be displayed in Paris in January at the new DesignPack Gallery, and then in March at Shanghai’s Luxepack exhibition. Platinum awards were given for the best product in each sector, while Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented for each subcategory. The top award, the Diamond Pentaward for Best of the Show, this year went to Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf for the Piper Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage champagne bottle, produced by Sleever International. The Platinum Pentawards went to: U.S.-based Turner Duckworth USA for Coca Cola Aluminum bottles (Beverages Category); the U.K.’s Pemberton & Whitefoord for Tesco Tortilla Chips (Food Category); and Japan’s Dentsu Kyushu for Yaoki Sake (Luxury Category).
