Vancouver, B.C. – Tetra Pak’s Tetra Recart has won the award for Best Green Consumer Product at the 2011 GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence.
The GLOBE Awards recognize exceptional achievement in environmental stewardship, and are presented by the Vancouver-based GLOBE Foundation, a not-for-profit organization committed to finding business-oriented solutions to environmental challenges.
The Tetra Recart is an innovative new retortable carton packaging system. Both its manufacturing process and the package are completely sustainable. Made mostly from paper, the Recart is lightweight, durable, shelf-stable and recyclable.
According to Tetra Pak, the new carton was designed to meet the needs of consumers and manufacturers for higher-quality, safe foods packaged responsibly and conveniently, without added preservatives. It is suitable for food products with particles of different sizes, including vegetables, soups, tomatoes, beans and even pet food.
Outstanding Retail
Other winners of this year’s GLOBE Awards in the food and grocery industries include Walmart Canada, which took the Corporate Award for Environmental Excellence, and The Beer Store, which won for Best Green Retailing Practices.
