With acquisition of Janes Family Foods, Sofina supplies customers across Canada and western U.S.
Markham, Ont. – Sofina Foods has acquired Mississauga, Ont.-based Janes Family Foods Ltd. for an undisclosed amount. Under the terms of the agreement Janes will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Sofina Foods.
Markham-based Sofina offers a wide range of processed pork, beef and poultry private-label and branded products. Its brands include Lilydale, Fletcher’s, Vienna, Cuddy and Quality Meats.
With two processing plants in Ontario, Janes Family Foods produces chicken and seafood products such as nuggets, strips, burgers, fillets and fingers.
According to Sofina, the acquisition will allow the company to grow in complementary product categories. The two companies will supply retail and foodservice customers across Canada and the western U.S. from 14 facilities in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Washington State.
“Though it was a difficult decision to retire from the company that the Janes family has built and operated over the past 43 years, we are very pleased to pass our legacy on to Sofina Foods, another great Canadian family owned business,” says Lembit Janes, chairman and CEO of Janes Family Foods. “We fully expect Sofina Foods will be strong supporters of the Janes brand and will continue the customer-focused excellence that has become the hallmark of Janes Family Foods.”
