Toronto – More than 100 new jobs are coming to the west end of the city in Etobicoke thanks to construction of a new food processing facility.
Wing’s Food Products announced its new plant this month, reports InsideToronto.com.
The private company, which opened in 1953, produces Asian-style noodles, egg roll wraps and wonton wraps, fortune cookies, Asian sauces and condiments for foodservice and retail. Wing’s already has manufacturing plants in Toronto and Edmonton and more than 275 employees.
Federal, provincial grants
The company received a $1-million grant from the province, reports InsideToronto.com. The grant will go toward purchasing new equipment, including additional technology that will help the company implement improved food safety standards.
The new technology will also make it possible for Wing’s to export food products made with Ontario food ingredients.
The company also received a $50,000 grant from the federal government that will go toward developing and training its staff. The aim, says InsideToronto.com, is to help the company produce grain-based products that can compete with imported food products and develop systems to export food products to foreign markets.
