Canadian grocery chain Metro Inc. has introduced a line of breads that contain an immune health ingredient called Wellmune WGP
Montreal – One of Canada’s largest grocery store chains has introduced a line of artisan breads – with an added health ingredient.
The breads are part of a new line of products called Life Smart Irresistibles, which has 20 new products geared to people with healthy lifestyles.
The breads contain Wellmune WGP, an ingredient its supplier says is a clinically proven, natural immune health ingredient from Biothera.
The breads are also part of Life Smart’s Immuno Smart category of baked goods.
The loaves are sold at Metro and Metro Plus supermarkets in Quebec and Ontario, and are
available in a choice of Whole Clove Garlic Petite Artisan Loaf or Sunflower Harvest Petite Artisan Loaf.
Wellmune WGP is said to activate the largest population of immune cells, which are a major part of the body’s natural defenses.
Derived from the cell walls of a proprietary strain of yeast, the ingredient can act as a biological response modifier.
The Wellmune WGP site explains that as the immune system evolved, it became very adept at killing yeast and fungi by recognizing certain molecules that commonly occur on the cell surface of these challenges. Wellmune WGP is one such recognition molecule.
Other products that contain Wellmune WGP in Canada include snack bars and cookies from Groupe Biscuits Leclerc Ltd. and juices, smoothies and soups from A. Lassonde Inc.
