Toronto-based Schenker of Canada Ltd. has wrapped up its 2010 cross-country food drive, having collected 12,167 lbs of food for local food banks across Canada.

This was the third year that the logistics provider has held its food campaign in aid of Food Banks Canada. The drive began on June 1, which also marked “Hunger Awareness Day,” and ran until June 11. Food collection bins were placed in each of Schenker’s 40 offices throughout the country.

Schenker also collected food bins for distribution from its customers and suppliers. “We’re urging our employees, customers and business partners to help us work to reduce hunger in Canada. Get involved. Together we will make a difference,” says Brian Martin, vice-president of Sales and Marketing for Schenker of Canada.

“Hunger remains a serious issue in this country, with close to 800,000 individuals turning to food banks for assistance each month,” adds Katharine Schmidt, executive director of Food Banks Canada. “We are grateful for the support of companies such as Schenker who are raising awareness about this issue, as well as raising food donations to support their local communities.”
