Toronto, Ont. – Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens is the newest downtown Toronto shopping experience from Loblaw Companies Ltd.
Housed in the historic Maple Leaf Gardens, the 85,000-sq.-ft. grocery store is being touted by the company as a “theatre of food,” with chef-inspired creations, an ACE Bakery, 18-ft. wall of cheese, Patisserie and Tea Emporium. Intertwined with these food features are connections to the building’s hockey history, including wall murals, sculptures and other artistic images.
“We are honoured to have had the opportunity to breathe new life into this iconic Canadian landmark,” says Loblaw executive chairman Galen G. Weston. “This building and its community inspired us to create an innovative and extraordinary urban food store concept that captures the spirit of its original four walls and lives as part of the social fabric of the community it serves. We know that once people step inside and take in all the store has to offer they will agree that Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens is indeed the crown jewel of food stores.”
As well as housing a medical clinic, the new location also boasts an in-store dietitian, which the company says will be on hand to help customers evaluate food labels and to plan healthier meals.
