A look at what was on display at this year’s Meat, Poultry & Seafood Convention and Exposition

The 2011 American Meat Institute’s Expo took place in Chicago from April 13 to 16. The show included education and meat technology sessions and almost 400 exhibitors. In 2012, the Expo is taking place in Dallas from April 30 to May 3. Here’s a look at some of the products that were on display in Chicago.

Eriez showcased its E-Z Tec Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Metal Detector Standard Conveyor Systems. The systems can provide users with the protection against ferrous and nonferrous metal contamination.

The systems come in 12”, 18” and 24” belt widths and include menu-driven control functions with an easy to see and use back-lit Touch Screen Interface.

The company also displayed its ProGrade series of Magnetic Separators. The line includes standard magnetic plates, grates, traps and tubes.

Also highlighted was the company’s Hi-Vi Compact Electro-Magnetic Feeders, a range of drive units for precision feeding of bulk materials. The company says the feeders can feed practically any bulk material from micron size to bulky chunks.

The company also highlighted products that are for the food processing industry. Those include: Magnetic Plates, Metal Detectors, Vibratory Feeders, Horizontal Motion Conveyors, X-Ray Inspection Systems, Magnetic Traps, Magnetic Grates and Grates in Housing, Volumatic Feeder Machines, High-Intensity Wet Magnetic Filters, Magnetic Humps, Magna Rails and Magna Rolls, Vibratory Screeners, and Bin Vibrators.

Griffith Laboratories is a global manufacturer of food ingredients.

The company highlighted its batters and breading, coatings, ingredients, flavourings and seasonings for meat and poultry, and its spices and herbs for meat and poultry.

In addition, the company highlighted its OptiYield and NaRedux, both of which are not available in Canada just yet. NaRedux helps reduce sodium and OptiYield can help users less expensive cuts and still guarantee eating quality. CleanIng is an MSG alternative and GrainBake is a whole-grain coating system.

Micocin, which has received approval to be used in Canada and was developed with the University of Alberta, is a food additive that provides targeted protection against Listeria.

Micocin is a superfine powder that is diluted in water and deposited with precision onto foods. The product is derived from naturally occurring elements already found in many food products.
