Edmonton, Alta. – The CoroWise plant sterols brand from Cargill Incorporated is sponsoring the Dietitians of Canada National Conference in Edmonton from June 16-18.
Last year, Health Canada approved of plant sterols being used in certain foods and, says Cargill, concluded that scientific evidence supports a relationship between the consumption of plant sterols and blood cholesterol lowering. Plant sterols are natural components of most fruits and vegetables.
For food manufacturers in Canada, this means that food products in Canada containing CoroWise plant sterols may now be eligible to carry a cholesterol-lowering health claim.
Cargill adds that CoroWise can be added to familiar foods without affecting flavour or texture.
The CoroWise brand is sponsoring the Welcome Reception at the conference at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald and offering educational literature at its booth.
