New York, N.Y. – Rainforest Alliance is celebrating its first annual Rainforest Alliance week with the help of business partners around the world. In Canada, one of those partners is Reunion Island Coffee, an Oakville, Ont.-based coffee roaster focused on environmentally friendly, sustainable products and practices.
Based in New York, Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour. The group has 35,000 members worldwide, with 20 global offices.
Conscious consumption
This week the group is encouraging consumers to help build a healthier planet through supporting businesses and products, such as coffee, tea and chocolate, which are certified through the Rainforest Alliance. Products can be identified by the organization’s green frog logo.
Reunion Island currently offers four varieties of Rainforest Alliance-certified coffees, and will launch four more in coming months from coffee grown in Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Indonesia. The company also features organic, Fair Trade-certified coffees.
