Vancouver – Premium Brands Holdings Corporation has acquired a meat company based in Ontario.

In a statement, Premium Brands says it acquired 100 per cent of the shares of Leadbetter Foods Inc.

The Orillia, Ont.-based company was established in 1926, says its website, and produces steaks, burgers, bacon, peameal bacon, ground beef, bacon-wrapped medallions, beef briskett, seasoned chicken breasts, sausages, pork tenderloin and pork cottage rolls. The company’s steaks and burgers are sold under the COWBOY brand.

Phil Leadbetter, the company’s president and CEO, says in the statement that Leadbetter Foods has had business dealings with Premium Brands, so is already familiar with the company’s “unique culture and core values.”

“Looking forward, I have no doubt that we will be able to take our business to the next level of its development by leveraging the many advantages that Premium Brands has to offer,” says Leadbetter, “including access to capital, marketing resources and a variety of new internal and external sales opportunities.”

According to the statement, Leadbetter Foods has annual sales of approximately $55 million. Premium Brands says the company operates two facilities, “including a modern 47,000-sq.-ft. custom-designed bacon operation built in 2012.” Both facilities are in Orillia.
