Events across the country mark milestone anniversary of Kraft brand

Toronto, Ont. – Cookie lovers everywhere are celebrating the 100th anniversary today of Oreos

The iconic cookie was created in a New York bakery in 1912 and first marketed as a dessert biscuit served by discerning hostesses. It was sold for 30 cents a pound from bulk displays.

Today, Oreos are sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, with global sales of $2 billion. Canada is the fourth largest market for the cookie, after the U.S., China and Venezuela.

To mark the occasion Kraft has developed a limited-edition birthday cake Oreo, complete with a special anniversary cookie base and vanilla and sprinkles cream filling. The company is celebrating the anniversary with parties across Canada today, and consumer contests and other events planned throughout the year.
