On July 26, the LCBO unveiled a new online shopping experience at lcbo.com that allows Ontario customers to shop for alcoholic beverages from their computer, laptop or smartphone.

The LCBO’s new e-commerce website will feature an initial assortment of close to 5,000 local, Canadian and international wines, beers, ciders and spirits. And according to an LCBO press release, up to 16,000 different products will be offered online by 2017.

Products ordered online can be delivered free of charge to a customer’s preferred LCBO store, or to anywhere in Ontario for a flat fee of $12 (plus tax) per order. Online orders for home delivery will be made within two to three days, while online orders to be delivered to an LCBO store will be available for pick-up at the store within four to twelve days.

Online delivery customers have to prove that they are of legal drinking age prior to placing an order, and someone with valid ID must be present to accept the package in-store or at home. Home deliveries will be made via Canada Post.

Thanks to this new online system, LCBO customers from across Ontario will now have increased access to products from 85 countries, as well as LCBO’s complete offering of domestic beers, wines, ciders and spirits. According to the LCBO, its new online platform is creating business opportunities for local and international suppliers, including those who couldn’t previously supply the 655-store LCBO network.
