Agropur acquires U.S. company

Longueuil, Que.-based Agropur, Canada’s largest dairy cooperative, has acquired Schroeder Milk, a milk processing company in Maplewood, Minn. The deal was scheduled to close late last year. Schroeder Milk will continue operating under its current name and under its current president. Agropur says no changes will be made to any of Schroeder’s brands, which include whole milk, 2% reduced fat milk, 1% low-fat milk, skim milk, buttermilk, cottage cheese, dips, eggnog and low-fat chocolate milk. The company, which was founded in 1884, provides dairy products and contract and specialty food packaging. It employs about 225 employees who process approximately 151 million litres of milk each year. Sales amount to US$123 million.
