Specialty food producer SunOpta continues to grow

Brampton, Ont. – SunOpta Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiary SunOpta Global Organic Ingredients Inc., has bought San Bernadino, Calif.-based Lorton’s Fresh Squeezed Juices Inc. for $2.5 million.

SunOpta processes natural health products, as well as natural, organic and specialty foods. With sales of about $10 million annually, Lorton’s produces citrus-based products for both industrial and retail distribution.

“This acquisition will leverage our strengths in sourcing and supply of citrus products and further strengthen our vertically integrated model from sourcing through ingredients and finished packaged products,” says Steve Bromley, SunOpta president and CEO. “This is consistent with our strategy to continue to grow our core value-added natural and organic foods platform.”
