Grand River Foods expansion project gets a boost from the province

Cambridge, Ont. – A government grant will help a food processor obtain new food processing equipment and create more jobs.

Grand River Foods says the Ontario government has given the company a $1 million grant.

The company applied for the grant boost last year, reports the CambridgeTimes.com. The company says with increasing demand it needed to make some high-tech changes.

The company put $6 million toward an expansion project, which it started last year and completed in mid-July.

The project included a $4.5-million addition to the company’s Vondrau Drive plant in Cambridge and $2.5 million for specialized equipment, engineering, surveying and consulting costs.

The company says it needed to expand to keep with the volume of demand due to limited processing capabilities, reports the CambridgeTimes.com.

The expansion will allow the company to grow by 50 per cent and hire another 60 employees.
