Build a Better World program to help co-operatives in the developing world

Ottawa, Ont. – Gay Lea foods Co-operative Ltd. has committed $400,000 to a new initiative that aims to help alleviate poverty through building and strengthening co-operatives around the world.

The Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada’s new (CDF) Build a Better World campaign is hoping to raise $12 million over the next four years. The funds will go towards pursuing three objectives – leadership, leveraging and legacy – that will allow the foundation to support co-op building worldwide.

“Co-operatives are among the most effective tools in reducing and eliminating poverty, and CDF’s long association with the international development program of the Canadian Co-operative Association has proven that time and time again through hundreds of projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America,” says Michael Barrett, COO of Gay Lea and chair of the CDF board.
